Historical Society of Pennsylvania
Coordinated a grant-funded digital history project
focused on the Underground Railroad. Titled “Family Ties on the Underground
Railroad,” the prototype site served as a proof of concept for a larger effort
that was intended to weave together the manuscript journal and published book of William
Still, the “Father of the Underground Railroad.” The prototype presented
XML-encoded transcripts and digital facsimiles of excerpts from the two Still volumes,
as well as biographies and other contextual materials.
First Person Museum
First Person Arts
Coordinated a new, nine-month, grant-funded project to
create the First Person Museum, a collection of people’s treasured objects and
their stories about those objects.
Oversaw all logistics of project planning, seven community engagement events,
and development of the museum’s web site and prototype exhibit, held at the Painted Bride
Art Center from November 5-December 18, 2010. Led a 15-person project team that
included documentary artists, historians, and museum consultants, with
additional content provided by a class of graduate history students at Temple
University.
African American Historic Site Inventory
Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia
Expanded and enhanced an inventory of African American
historic sites in Philadelphia, growing the list from 300+ sites to more than
450 sites, for a new Web site to help draw attention to long overlooked African
American resources. Researched local, state and national register status of properties,
worked with Web developer to prepare inventory to become searchable online
database, and drafted all text for new web site.
Assisted with other preservation projects as needed, including preparing
Carnegie library nominations to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places,
researching and writing annual Endangered Properties List, and drafting text
for the Alliance’s Preserve Philadelphia Web site.
